The First Winery On The North Fork, Cutchogue, NY
When the first potato farm was purchased to plant grapes, many eyebrows were raised across the North Fork, I can still remember the day my mother brought my younger brother to Hargraves Vineyard to start his first job, He moved on to become an electrician but my mother stayed for decades and saw the growth of the North Fork Wine Trail evolve through trial and error under the direction of vineyard owner Louisa Hargrave. Who knew the North Fork was the perfect microclimate for vineyards, well Louisa and Alex Hargrave did. The rest is history and what a history it has been. Jerry Cibulski, Century 21 Albertson Realty.
- Something you may not know, Cutchogue has recorded the most days of sun in New York and has therefore made claim as the sunniest village in the state.
- The first plantings of vines on the North Fork are now coming to age and replacement plans are coming in place to pull old vines. Replacing with younger stock will keep the production and consistency that the vineyard has built a reputation upon.
