    Originally known as Green Hill, the son of the pastor who founded the original settlement in Southold, built a timber frame home from the shores of Sterling Creek. Years later, the harbor became an active shipping and whaling port since the harbor never froze over during the winter season, With the change in economic use, the name was changed from Green Hill to Greenport to reflect the active maritime waterfront.     • Greenport Village has become a destination for those looking for a diverse food culture. With ties to the waterfront, you can find Little Creek Oysters overlooking the harbor with picnic tables filled with revelers of the oyster selection available on the menu. Fun for everyone, you can shuck your own or order them prepared. With lessons on hand, you can enjoy the challenge and experience of opening you own with gloves and knives at the ready. Further down Front St you will have to try Noah's. With both indoor and outdoor dining, Noah's offers a tapas menu that is never disappointing.

    The heart of Greenport Village is Mitchell Park. The park comes alive Monday evenings during the summer season with free to the public, music in the park series.
